With over 3,200 addresses in 600 cities worldwide, the 50 Best Discovery serves as a guide to hospitality venues, extending the rankings of the 50 Best. In this selection, which does not claim to provide rankings, in addition to all the places listed in the top fifty and top hundred, there are also other addresses to create a travel map that is as diverse as possible: not only fine dining and creative cuisine establishments, which represent the backbone of the rankings, but also places that offer a simpler, everyday proposal capable of appealing to the tastes and preferences of gourmets from around the world. For example, alongside Virgilio Martinez's Central – Best Restaurant of the World 2023 – in Lima, there is also La Gloria, a more classic place, an institution for the city. And so it goes for the rest of the world, bringing together restaurants, bistros, cocktail bars, and hotels following the 50 Best framework.
Regularly updated – the last update was in November 2022 – the Discovery is based on the preferences expressed by the various voters of the other rankings (about 1,100 for restaurants, 680 for cocktail bars, 580 for hotels) and is a platform designed "to give our users the maximum inspiration possible for eating and drinking" and, recently, also for staying. In 2023, the first ranking of the best hotels in the world was published (which saw Italy triumph with Passalacqua on Lake Como) to provide globe-trotting gourmets looking for good addresses with comprehensive coverage of the world of hospitality.
The 2024 update
In Italy, there are 4 new restaurants: Bentoteca in Milan, Villa Crespi in Orta San Giulio, Duomo in Ragusa, Imàgo in Rome. For bars, there are Gucci Giardino 25 in Florence, Aguardiente in Marina di Ravenna, Moebius Milano, and Nik's & Co., both in Milan. In the hotel sector (in addition to the structures already in the ranking), the new entries are well balanced throughout the territory: Borgo Santo Pietro in Chiusdino, Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco in Montalcino, Il Pellicano in Porto Ercole, Hotel Locarno, JK Place, The St. Regis Rome (all three in Rome), Mandarin Oriental on Lake Como, Grand Hotel Tremezzo (Lake Como), and Mandarin Oriental in Milan, San Pietro in Positano, Caruso in Ravello, Borgo Santandrea in Amalfi. The latest additions include Gritti Palace and Hotel Cipriani in Venice, Forestis Dolomites in Bressanone, and Castello di Reschio in Lisciano Niccone, in Umbria but a step away from Tuscany.
