Vinitaly postponed to June
The 54th edition of Vinitaly will be held from 20 to 23 June 2021, with Enolitech and Sol&Agrifood. This time Veronafiere has decided to play it early and without prevarication has announced the new dates. The result of a careful check with the institutions to get forecasts on the pandemic curve and a survey that involved the market to identify a period in which even non-European buyers can participate in international events. “The postponement to June,” explains Maurizio Danese, president of VeronaFiere Spa, “is in line with the revision of the positioning of the calendars of the main Italian and foreign international trade fairs”.
"Vinitaly with OperaWine (scheduled for 19 June; editor's note) and the concomitant exhibitions” stresses Giovanni Mantovani, general manager of VeronaFiere Spa, "will take place in a time frame in which the government will have had time to prepare the procedures for the entry of international buyers into our country. At the same time there will be other events in Europe aimed at promoting the wine sector. This is a strategic and synergistic decision to enable market and information operators, especially those from Asia and the USA, who are among the main visitors to our exhibitions, to optimise their participation with a single move".
The calendar 2021 changes
Will the end of spring be the new wine business season? Before Vinitaly, in fact, Wine Paris & Vinexpo Paris had also announced the postponement from February to June (from June 14 to 16). From France, therefore, for international buyers the move to Verona would be an ideal continuation of the trip. And now our eyes are on ProWein to see if and how the German trade fair will decide to fit into this new exhibition calendar. At the moment the Messe Düsseldorf has confirmed the dates of March (from March 19 to 23), opting to extend the event to five days (instead of the canonical three) just to meet the need for quota income. But the decision of two months ago already seems anachronistic, considering that it will not be easy by March to return to pre-Covid levels and to attract an important presence of international buyers to the Old Continent. They're expecting news.
