Cascina Oschiena is one of the few farms to grow the traditional carnaroli variety of rice using integrated pest control. One of the oldest estates in Vercelli, it was the property of the abbey of Santo Stefano di Vercelli from the 16th to the 18th centuries. Now owned by Alice Cerutti, the estate undertakes all production aspects except processing of grains, which is outsourced. As well as carnaroli, recommended products are apollo, a fragrant basmati and Italy's first of this variety; black venere and selenio rice.
