Considered the parlor of Piazza San Marco, the historic Gran Caffè Quadri has managed to renew itself thanks mostly to the apt stewardship of the Alajmo family. Its historical value is undeniable, with roots that go all the way back to 1638 (when it was called "Il Rimedio"). Then, in 1775, it took on its current name under Giorgio Quadri. In 1830 new management added the Quadri restaurant, handing off to the Alajmo family the well-established business that we know today. In the morning it's a high-quality café where roast coffee from Gianni Frasi's Giamaica is accompanied by outstanding croissants, cupcakes, muffins and a nice selection of biscuits. Among the savory delights you'll find tramezzini and toasted sandwiches, fried snacks and their not-to-be-missed steamed pizzas. Their appetizing "cicchetti" are very tasty indeed. The blinis with smoked sturgeon, guacamole and spicy mango salad is perfect to accompany an aperitif. Their selection of cocktails is overseen by bar manager Lucas Kelm, who offers great classics, some signature cocktails (like the Black Old Fashioned with whiskey, agave syrup and angostura bitters) and pays particular attention to the martini, which is presented in several versions. All the food items on offer, including the menu of their Quadrino restaurant, are overseen by chef Silvio Giavedoni.
