VINEYARD | Vineyards tended like a garden. The expression is overused, often, but it gives an idea of the work in the vineyards of Briona, the first town on the Novara side of the Upper Piedmont coming from the city. The vines are at least 40 years old on average, and we are about 250 meters above sea level. The varieties grown are nebbiolo, 70 percent in the blend, the remaining 30 percent is told by vespolina, with the vines grown on soils rich in silt and a good percentage of clay and sand. The wine matures in large oak barrels for 20 months, then ages another four months in bottles before release.
PERSON | Virtuoso the work carried out by Gilberto Boniperti, who started his own business in 2008 after oenological studies and initial field experience. The most complex work was to restore the family vineyards but, visiting the winery, it is clear how much attention and care there is also in the different stages of winemaking. Allier oak of various sizes is used for maturation in wood. The mainstay of production is based on the nebbiolo grape, to which a little barbera and especially vespolina are added, from which the increasingly popular Favolalunga label is made.
WINE | The small winery in Barengo offers a Fara Bartön of great precision. The fruit of the 2019 vintage, the wine has refined aromas with red fruit taking center stage and the deeper notes of rhubarb and roots, characteristic of the Alto Piemonte, playing in the background. In the mouth, don't look for power: the wine spreads out firmly and rigorously without ever overdoing it, turning out dense, nervous and with good length. It combines lightness and aromatic precision, in a register of exquisite classicism.
