Enzo Coccia leaves Rome for an ambitious project in the United States: "but La Notizia stays"

Master pizzaiolo Enzo Coccia has decided to step away from Vico Pizza & Wine, the Rome-based establishment he opened in 2023 with the De Angelis family, which has recently earned the esteemed "Tre Spicchi" rating in the Pizzerie d'Italia 2025 guide. Coccia hints at a bustling 2025, filled with new commitments

“If you’re not there, there’s no soul; it just becomes a chain. And I’ve got a lot lined up for 2025,” remarks Coccia, an award-winning maestro and global ambassador of Neapolitan pizza. He’ll no longer be a partner at Vico Pizza & Wine in Rome, but he will remain connected to the Capri branch, which operates from May to October at La Residenza hotel, also owned by the De Angelis family.

The big project in the United States

Coccia, born in 1962, is the heir to a long lineage of pizzaioli and is based in Naples, where he runs the renowned La Notizia on Via Caravaggio and La Notizia 94—both recently awarded Tre Spicchi in the Pizzerie guide. His 2025 calendar is packed with international engagements. “On March 30th, we’re off to the U.S. with the team for a major project, though I can’t share specifics yet. We’ll be in Washington, Maryland, and North Carolina, but there won’t be another ‘La Notizia’; this will be a consulting and training venture. Starting in January, we’ll also begin developing the structure and concept for our space in Massa Lubrense on Via Pontone 1, near Don Alfonso 1890,” Coccia reveals. His journey to international fame was accelerated when Stanley Tucci highlighted him as a representative of Neapolitan pizza in CNN’s *Searching for Italy*, which won an Emmy in 2021. “That was the start—they saw us and reached out,” he shares.

Changes at Vico Pizza & Wine in Rome

The partnership with the De Angelis family, which began in 2023 with the opening of the Rome location in Piazza Rondanini, remains amicable. “We worked wonderfully together and achieved great things quickly, such as the Tre Spicchi award. I wish my trainees the best—they’ll have to stand on their own now, roll up their sleeves, and work hard. It’s one thing to have constant oversight and input; it’s another to go it alone. But I’m confident they’ll succeed,” Coccia states.

Vico in Rome will now be led by Ciro De Vincenzo, Coccia’s first pizzaiolo at the Rome location. “He’s a young talent with the drive to make a name for himself, with an eye for quality, tradition, and precise techniques, as well as a modern take on pizza that bridges cooking and pizzeria culture,” explains Antonio Palumbo of the De Angelis family, the young entrepreneur behind Vico from its inception. “With Ciro’s vision and knack for fresh combinations, I’m confident not only in maintaining the high standards we’ve set but also in continuing to push for excellence and innovation. This new chapter offers us the chance to embrace new challenges.”

Plans for further developments at Vico in Rome are already underway.
