Many people know Kettmeir for its early commitment to sparkling wines, long before they became a trend. However, the winery also produces excellent still wines, as demonstrated by the label that has been awarded the Regional Quality-Price Award

As you travel up from Lake Caldaro and look north, on the right side of a small valley stands Kettmeir, a large estate that blends perfectly into the South Tyrolean landscape—a vast vineyard platform overlooking the lake. Founded in 1919 by Giuseppe Kettmeir, the winery is a pillar of Alto Adige's winemaking tradition. Since 1986, it has been part of the Santa Margherita Group, which has reshaped its identity while preserving its historic value.

Today, Josef Romen oversees the management of an extensive vineyard estate, partly owned and partly cultivated by dedicated partner growers. The vineyards are primarily located in Bassa Atesina and Oltradige, with additional small parcels on the Renon plateau. The winery's production embraces the region’s key varieties, with a strong focus on Metodo Classico sparkling wines, a story that dates back to the 1960s and has become the winery’s signature in the 21st century.

The Best Quality-Price Wine in Alto Adige according to the Berebene 2025 Guide

Unlike many other Alto Adige wineries, Kettmeir has not pursued an all-encompassing production approach across all the region’s cultivated varieties. Instead, it has made precise choices, focusing only on those that best suit its carefully managed vineyards. This strategy has resulted in a range of wines that brilliantly express their terroir, with grapes that showcase distinct and diverse profiles.

For the Berebene 2025 Guide by Gambero Rosso, we selected the A.A. Pinot Bianco '23 as the Regional Quality-Price Award winner. This wine also earned the prestigious Two Red Glasses in the Vini d'Italia 2025 Guide, having reached the final stages of tastings.

With aromas of white fruit and flowers, the Pinot Bianco '23 offers a light, agile, and instantly enjoyable sip. It is crafted from vineyards in the Oltradige region, situated at altitudes between 400 and 600 metres. The wine is aged exclusively in stainless steel, preserving its freshness, aromatic vibrancy, and lively drinkability, all of which are naturally bestowed by its unique terroir.
