In 1867, Giovanni Ponti, farmer and wine and vinegar producer, began business in Sizzano, in the Novara area. In 1911, son Antonio received the diploma of honour for wines and vinegars at the Paris international fair. In 1939 the company added canned vegetables to its production. The fourth generation began a massive expansion action, acquisition of top competing vinegar-makers, and conquest of international markets. In 1986 the new Peperlizia line was launched and in 1991, with the takeover of Modenaceti, production of Aceto Balsamico di Modena began, taking Ponti to world leadership (also for wine vinegar) at this moment in time. In 2008, Ponti acquired Achillea, a Cuneo company specializing in production of organic cider vinegar, fruit juices and jams. There are five facilities: two in Piedmont, and one each in Veneto, Emilia Romagna, and Lazio. The product range includes two types of IGP Aceto Balsamico di Modena; wine, aromatized and cider vinegars; rice and pasta condiments; vegetables in oil and in vinegar; ready sauces and condiment sachets.
