Unique in its genre, Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella vaunts eight centuries of cosmetic science and care that changed the history of beauty products. In 1221 the Dominican friars began to build their Florence convent, with adjoining vegetable garden where medicinal herbs were grown and used to prepare medicines, balms and ointments for the small infirmary. Today the ancient production of perfumes, soaps, cosmetics and liqueurs continues.
