Premiata Fabbrica di Liquori Emilio Borsi

Description

In April 1886 Francesco Borsi started his production of liqueurs in Castagneto Carducci, where he began to make his famous Elixir China Calisaja, which won awards at the Rome Expo of 1895 and 1899. This liqueur used Ecuador cinchona, used to extract quinine, the antimalarial drug used in the Maremma district at least until the early 1900s. When Francesco died, his son Emilio took over and continued traditional production. Today the company is managed by Anna Maria Costa, and produces Gran Liquore del Pastore, prepared with pure milk, sugar, vanilla, and lemons.
