The all-new Eataly Trieste
The launch is part of this year’s big celebrations. At the end of January Eataly turns 10 years old. The entire month of January there will be special events hosted in the various shops around Italy. Eataly Trieste, the first store of the franchise in Friuli Venezia Giulia, is dedicated to wind. How could it not be in “the city of the winds”, swept by Adriatic NNE Bora, South-westerly Libeccio, northeaster Grecale and mistral, and melting pot of many cultures that have helped in making the city a culinary and cultural exchange. “There are so many stories of wind and sea and tradition, each give birth to quality products and fine ingredients - maintains Oscar Farinetti - Eataly Trieste conceals them all, celebrating its creatures of the wind and their incomparable beauty”.
The space Antico Magazzino Vini
The exceptional space for the brand new Trieste store is Antico Magazzino Vini, built in 1902 as a warehouse to store barrels hailing from the Istria peninsula and nearby Dalmatia. It was restored over the course of 11 years and has become a Friuli food mecca. Renovation, with the support of Fondazione CRTrieste, is the work of Florentine architect Marco Casamonti of Archeo studio (the same that remodelled Cantina Antinori). The historic structure has been maintained intact, through its large windows the view on the city port and gulf are breathtaking.
Within the store are four art installations by Sergio Staino dedicated to the wind, and a photo exhibit on the latest edition of the Barcolana historic sailing competition held annually in the Gulf of Trieste.
Osteria to gelateria, the Eataly Trieste venues
There are 7 dining spots on 3 different floors in addition to the sales point showcasing Italian and regional Italian specialties. Osteria del Vento will be serving surf and turf menus with focus on local Trieste cuisine, while the Fish Academy - La Barcaccia will focus on the best catch of the day transforming i tinto creative recipes. As far as beverages, patrons will choose among thousands of labels in the Enoteca. This will become the region’s largest wine retail space. The wine bar Pane&Vino is another interesting option for aperitivo. Choice in coffee is guaranteed by the illy brand at Gran Bar illy, paired to homemade gelato at Agrimontana and Domori chocolate, whose central stand has a sea view. On the ground floor is the Scuola di Eataly Trieste, a teaching classroom seating 30 that will house classes, courses, lessons, wine tastings and various other events. “Eataly Trieste showcases an area’s defining cultural and gastronomical heritage, one that is boundless, multilingual, multicultural and multi-religious” explains Andrea Guerra, CEO of Eataly, “The richness of local tradition is a precious asset which Eataly is committed to endorsing every day by showcasing quality local products, the best recipes and didactic analysis”.
