A startup accelerator to lend impulse to food innovation: it’s the Food Tech Accelerator, first worldwide pioneer program to help food startups launched by Just Eat, US leader in home delivery.

Food Tech accelerator program

Solid and tangible support from a successful startup can come to those with a concept that needs to be kickstarted. This is exactly what Just Eat is doing. Launched in Denmark in 2001 and leader in the niche market of home delivery in over 13 countries, during its growth years, the company took advantage of the great potential offered by modern technology that puts customers and restaurants in contact. The desire of Just Eat is now making that technology and acquired investment know-how available to new startups.

As explained by Fernando Fanton, Chief Product & Technology Officer at Just Eat, “the choice of launching the first ever support program for startups comes from the desire to continue to grow our commitment to a sustainable future in the food tech business. We firmly believe in the value of innovative ideas and we’re certain that offering investments and advice to startups can be a tangible way to foster change, guiding market evolution”. To bring forth the Food Tech Accelerator project, Just Eat is building a new Corporate Ventures team that will specifically focus on investment opportunities collaborating with food startups.

How to participate

At the moment the platform is seeking 5 startups to participate in the 10-week program. This will be filled with events, teaching seminars, pitches and the chance – in some cases – to access part of the Just Eat database. Calls are open to all trailblazing ideas connected to technology that can somehow change and improve the fruition, production, use or sale of food. The investment for each of the selected startups will be 20 thousand UK pounds (approximately 22 thousand Euro) and Just Eat will detain 5% of quotas for each project. How to participate in the race? Fill out the online form, or candidate your idea between October 14 - 21 at the London Food Tech Week for a chance to be chosen as one of the 5 startups chosen to be in the accelerator program.
