Barbera d'Asti is one of the most well-known wines of Piedmont, with various high-quality interpretations. However, here we are talking about a label that combines excellent taste with an incredibly affordable price, which is why we awarded it the Best Quality-Price Ratio in Piedmont.
Vinchio and Vaglio Serra are two towns in the Monferrato region, in the province of Asti, known in the past for their fierce rivalry, which has largely been overcome thanks to the founding of this cooperative winery. In remembrance of these events, the winery's statute stipulates that the two most important positions, President and Vice-President, be held alternately by representatives from each of the two towns.
The Vinchio Vaglio winery was founded in the late 1950s, when 19 winegrowers decided to join forces to produce wine and become more competitive in the market. Since then, the winery has continued to grow, and today it has 200 members, forming a large family of winegrowers who take care of a vineyard that spans over 500 hectares.
Despite the large scale, the winery has always maintained a high standard of quality, particularly when it comes to the area's flagship grape, Barbera, which is produced in various versions. The two towns mentioned in the company’s logo house the majority of the vineyards, but a significant portion is also distributed across Castelnuovo Belbo, Castelnuovo Calcea, Cortiglione, Incisa Scapaccino, Mombercelli, and Nizza.
Barbera d'Asti Superiore I Tre Vescovi '22 - Vinchio Vaglio
The wine with the best quality-price ratio in Piedmont according to the Berebene 2025 guide
The winery’s production is quite versatile and includes about fifty wines, a range rich in varietal and territorial nuances that demonstrate the expressive and dynamic capacity of the local grape varieties, cultivated with passion and care by the associated farmers. Among the many labels offered, we found the Barbera d'Asti Superiore I Tre Vescovi '22 particularly effective—a red offered at such a competitive price that we couldn't resist awarding it the Regional Quality-Price Award for Piedmont in the Berebene 2025 guide by Gambero Rosso. The 75-hectolitre barrels in which the wine rests for about a year impart slightly spicy nuances to an aromatic profile that highlights scents of wild berries and Mediterranean scrub. The palate is consistent, savoury, and juicy, perfect to enjoy alongside first courses with rich meat sauces.
