On November 6, after a three-year hiatus, our Tre Bicchieri Grand Tasting took place at the hyper-glamour Wanda Reign at the Bund hotel, winning over an enthusiastic crowd of wine professionals for the most awaited wine event of the year, not only from the city but also from the Greater Bay Area, which also includes Hong Kong, Macao and Guangzhou, to taste over 100 award-winning wines from all over Italy.
Special guest: Consorzio Vini d'Abruzzo
Special guest was the Consorzio Vini d'Abruzzo with 10 proud producers of this beautiful wine region and its special space. From 1pm to 6pm there was a continuous flow of wine lovers, sommeliers, importers and distributors, journalists and food and wine influencers and restaurateurs. It was a unique occasion after the pandemic, and the Gambero Rosso event signified a sign of rebirth, of a new beginning for the sparkling food and wine scene of Shanghai, also known as the Paris of the East.
Barone di Valforte, Codice Vino, Collefrisio,Contesa,FamigliadeCerchio,Fantini,DonatelloJasci,PiandimareTenutaAntonini and Terraviva enlivened the event with their best labels, from the young 2022 vintage up to more mature selections of '17, with some excellent Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo and Pecorino to complete the picture of an Abruzzo that fascinates the palates of wine lovers from all over the world.
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo
“Over 60% of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is sold abroad – told us Davide Acerra, communications manager of the Consorzio Tutela Vini d'Abruzzo – and in recent years its image and its appreciation, thanks also to a new generation of producers, is growing. And this event in Shanghai gave us the measure of this. Great turnout at our station, lots of tastings, lots of questions... and lots of appreciation! There is definitely an air of optimism and a fresh start... Especially from young people."
“Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is a great wine – adds Bruce Li, sommelier and wine expert, as well as consultant for a number of important restaurants and wine bars – and has characteristics of structure, color, richness of fruit, tannicity and softness that are very popular with the Chinese palate . It is a wine that goes well with our cuisine: especially that of Shanghai. I'm thinking of duck or pork dishes: the elegant tannins and fruity character of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo can complement the richness of dishes such as Shanghai-style braised pork belly or Peking duck. And again, with soy-based chicken or tofu stews, or stir-fried dishes, and sweet and sour meats, rich in umami... just like Montepulciano d'Abruzzo!”.
