From high up, Rome becomes simply a different city. Not that it doesn't make you dream when you're "inside" it, but you can forgive its tantrums and untidiness only from a point of view as close to the sky as possible, where the chaos disappears and gives way to the real Eternal City. Moreover, aside from the poetry, Rome is enjoyed outdoors practically all year round, but the terrace is the place to be during its summers. Here's a small selection of unmissable spots for the 2024 season, including new arrivals and timeless classics.
The 10 most beautiful terraces in Rome for eating and drinking
47 Circus Roof Garden
This rooftop is one of the most panoramic in the Capital, with the peculiarity of being completely open-air (and usable even when the weather is less mild) to experience being literally immersed in the skyline, almost touching the Teatro Marcello with a view stretching from the Capitoline Hill to the Palatine Hill and the Aventine Hill. A few months ago, Maurizio Lustrati joined the team, embracing the house's philosophy with his personal style: seasonality and sustainability (oil and vegetables come from their own organic garden in Tuscia). Selected wines and well-made drinks complete the picture.

AcquaRoof Terrazza Molinari in The First Roma Arte Hotel
A bistro and cocktail bar on a terrace literally immersed among the roofs of Rome. Below is the gourmet restaurant Acquolina; here, visitors come for signature mixed drinks, detailed in a very interesting seasonal drink menu. You can stop by for an aperitif but also to continue the evening. The menu ranges from raw dishes or selections of oysters and caviar to zucchini flowers with mozzarella, anchovies, and pepper sorbet, potato gnocchi with seafood, arugula, and cherry tomatoes, and the catch of the day in "acqua pazza."

Adèle Mixology at Hotel Splendide Royal
The sunset seen from here has another pace; after all, we are on one of the most beautiful and panoramic terraces in Rome, with a 360-degree view of the Eternal City from the eighth floor of the hotel, an exceptional setting for a refined and reserved aperitif. The cocktails are crafted by a highly skilled team of bartenders; the gastronomic offer includes delicacies and dishes curated by the gourmet team of the prestigious Mirabelle. The service is professional and friendly, befitting the location.

Anima Roof
Inside The Rome EDITION - the first Italian hotel part of the hotel brand signed by entrepreneur Ian Schrager and owned by the Statuto Group - coexist the gourmet Anima, led by Antonio Gentile and with a charming internal garden, and the panoramic terrace on the seventh floor with a stunning view (we are steps away from Via Veneto, Trevi Fountain, and Piazza Barberini) and "bites" by Japanese chef Haruo Ichikawa (one of the Sushi Masters in the Sushi 2025 guide), who skillfully handles excellent raw materials with Japanese expertise: shrimp korokke, various types of uramaki, Samurai Stick. The menu available from Tuesday to Sunday from 5 pm to 10:30 pm is complemented by the All Day Bites and Lunch offerings. Satisfaction is also guaranteed on the drink side.

Babuino 181 Terrace
An exclusive boutique hotel organized in two structures and a stone's throw from Piazza del Popolo and Piazza di Spagna, with intimate suites meticulously detailed. The terrace, with a covered part and surrounded by a hedge, is furnished in an international and cosmopolitan style, with wicker armchairs and comfortable sofas. The view is worth the stop: visitors come for an aperitif or a late-night drink and choose from a focused selection of cocktails accompanied by some ad hoc bites. The space is also popular for events, parties, and important occasions. The large windows ensure its usability even in winter.

Terrazza Borromini
The rooftop is located on the fifth floor of the Pamphilj Palace (the restaurant is on the fourth floor) and offers a breathtaking view of Piazza Navona. Located in the seventeenth-century Innocenziano College, it is the perfect place for an aperitif or an exclusive evening in an exceptional location. The mixology is top-notch, featuring classics, signature drinks, and spontaneous creations by skilled bartenders, and the wine selection offers interesting references. There are also various pre- or after-dinner delicacies to accompany drinks and glasses.

Divinity Terrace at The Pantheon Iconic Rome Hotel
The central hotel, in addition to the gourmet Idylio by Apreda, has one of the most beautiful terraces in the city on the top floor, suspended between the roofs and the dome of the Pantheon. Here is the lounge bar and restaurant, also under the direction of Francesco Apreda, with a bistro formula. The menu offers various international proposals but with evident references to Rome and the South: carpaccio, Chianina tartare with mustard seeds, round pizza in slices or "square" wholemeal, served on a stand in the middle of the table. There are also "convivial pastas," with carbonara fusilli and gold amatriciana rigatoni. The place is frequented by foreigners and a well-established Roman clientele. The wine and cocktail lists are rich, with physiological markups for the location.

Moon Asian Bar at Hotel Valadier
A classy stop for a dinner - but also an aperitif - with a Japanese twist, right in the center. We are on the beautiful rooftop of the hotel, a stone's throw from Piazza del Popolo: here on the sixth floor, the oriental corner of the historic Roman residence has recently come to life. You can sit in the carefully designed interior spaces, but if the weather permits, it's recommended to choose one of the outdoor tables to enjoy the view. The menu offers plenty of sushi and allows you to discover all the areas where the fish comes from: nigiri but also bao stuffed with cardoncelli mushrooms, fried mackerel with curry mayonnaise. At midnight there's the Midnight menu, with eight gyoza proposals including meat, fish, vegetarian, and sweet options. Great drink list (it's the Best Mixed Drink Proposal in the Sushi 2025 guide), and a fine sake selection. Very attentive service.

La Pergola at the Rome Cavalieri Hotel
Among the Roman terraces of summer 2024, it is impossible not to mention that of the "new" Pergola by Heinz Beck, which reopened to the public in early June after a long and very meticulous restyling. It may be cliché, but if the view from the top of Monte Mario on the ninth floor of the hotel was already the most enchanting in Rome, today, with a refreshed dining room in its mise en place, lights, and floral motifs that embellish it by architect Patrick Jouin, it is, if possible, an even more magical place. The cuisine and menu are also entirely new, the latter focusing on the ingredient and increasingly on the healthy component, which means anything but "renunciation": "We must provide a wonderful evening and an even better morning," says the master.

La Terrazza at the Hotel Eden
A new chapter for the prestigious five-star luxury hotel in the heart of the Capital. The season opens with the cuisine of Salvatore Bianco, from Campania, born in 1978, coming from Il Comandante at the Romeo Hotel in Naples. Here he has brought his philosophy, which he defines as "the avant-garde of the past": roots in the Mediterranean tradition and an open view of the world, also given by his numerous travels. For Il Giardino and La Terrazza, his proposal honors Neapolitan origins in a contemporary key and with great attention to vegetables. Don't miss the desserts, conceived with careful attention to the sugar component.
