Tre Bicchieri 2024. The best Valdobbiadene
Tastings of great satisfaction this year in Veneto, undoubtedly determined by a series of excellent vintages such as 2021 and 2022, which, although diametrically opposed, have given rise to wines with refined aromas and dynamic flavors of great tension and agility in the first case, and intensely fruity wines, available and immediate in the second. Here we propose the Valdobbiadene wines that we liked the most and that we awarded with the Tre Bicchieri in the Gambero Rosso Guide to Italian Wines 2024.
The Cuvée Graziano Merotto 2022, the result of the most beautiful vineyards owned in Col San Martino, offers the usual class performance, made up of mature aromas of white fruit and flowers, with a sapid, creamy, and extraordinarily lively taste, for a result to be framed. Graziano Merotto has been treading the hills of Col San Martino for over half a century, with his gaze oscillating between the sky and the vineyards, aware that these are the two fundamental ingredients for the production of a great wine, whether still or exuberant with bubbles. The rest is done by delicate and unintrusive work in the cellar, where the enhancement of the fruit of nature is the mantra that guides all activities. About thirty hectares are worked directly, to which an equal number are added, followed by trusted viticulturists from the historic Prosecco area.
Prosecco is not just the base for many aperitifs or, unfortunately, an occasional generic "frizzantino"; instead, it is a wine that, in its best interpretations, manages to give a pleasantness unreachable for any other sparkling wine. Franco and Armando Adami, from the historic vineyard of Colbertaldo, produce a Prosecco Superiore with intense and multifaceted expressions of fruit, capable of captivating the palate with the perfect balance between bubbles, acidity, and sweetness.
The Particella 232 2022 Sorelle Bronca offers a wide aromatic bouquet to the nose, where white fruit finds freshness in subtle vegetal and floral notes. In the mouth, the solidity of the sip is supported by the vigorous acidic and sapid push. Ersiliana and Antonella Bronca have faced the challenges that have brought Prosecco's success worldwide with great clarity, renouncing to excessively expand production and specializing in high-profile labels that pursue the idea of a wine that enhances differences rather than conforming to trends.
The Prosecco Superiore awarded by Andreola, the result of the selection of the best vineyards during the harvest. Generous in offering notes of pear and wildflowers, it stands out for its sapidity and harmony on the palate. Founded at the end of the last century by Nazzareno Pola, Andreola is one of the most appreciated names in the Valdobbiadene area. Today, Stefano, his son, leads the winery, expanding its vineyard boundaries to the nearby Asolo denomination, acquiring in both territories vineyards of absolute value that are true gems in a vineyard park that now exceeds 100 hectares.
