Wine Spectator's Top 100, the ranking of the best wines tasted according to the famous American magazine, is back and among the top 10 positions is an Italian wine. At number 7 in the top 10 we find Chianti Classico Marchese Antinori Riserva 2020 with a score of 95/100, ahead of Greywacke's Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2022 at number 10 (New Zealand), Résonance's Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2021 (Oregon) in ninth position and Château Pichon Baron's Pauillac 2020 at mumber 8. Also from the same winery, last year's Tignanello 2019 had won fifth position and in 2000 the Solaia had soared to first. A renewed achievement for Antinori and an important recognition for Italian wine. In the following days, day after day, the remaining positions will be revealed until the wine in first position on Friday 10 November and all the other 90 wines on Monday 13 November.
Wine profile
The grapes from which the wine is made come from the rows of vines on the Tignanello estate, which lies in the hills between the Greve and Pesa valleys in the heart of the Chianti Classico region. In the 130 hectares under vine we find Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese. This is the birthplace of two important, internationally recognised wines: Tignanello and Solaia, plus Marchese Antinori. Predominantly Sangiovese with a small proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine is aged in barriques for about a year, after fermentation in steel tanks. A structured wine with sensations of ripe red fruit, cocoa and spicy tones.
