After 50 years, the historic travel brand launches its first Italian print edition. Rome takes centre stage in the debut issue

Travel + Leisure, the historic travel brand that has been active in North America for over 50 years, is making a big investment in Italy. The first issue of the Italian print edition was unveiled in Rome on 28 June at the Bulgari Hotel Roma, where the cover photo of the inaugural issue was taken.

The first edition of the magazine features a focus on cities around the world, with the cover story dedicated entirely to the Eternal City and its revitalised luxury hospitality scene.
"After years of stagnation, we wanted to capture the resurgence of Roman hospitality over the past two to three years. The common thread is cities—we've taken a tour of the world through more than 20 destinations: from Houston to São Paulo, from Copenhagen to Laos. These are highly personal and evocative narratives, designed for curious and passionate travellers," says Federico de Cesare Viola, Editorial Director of the project.

Italy’s Golden Age of tourism

Why this investment in Italy?
"It is the most desired country in the world for American travellers. Launching the Italian edition is a strategic move from a commercial standpoint. Right now, there aren’t enough voices telling the story of this thriving period for Italian hospitality and tourism. The numbers clearly show that we are in an exceptionally positive phase—it deserves to be told."

Each issue will be published quarterly and will feature a dedicated theme.
"After the Urban Issue, we will focus entirely on wellness, followed by an issue on islands and another on high-altitude adventures. We have designed original sections, such as Discoveries, dedicated to itineraries, Experiences, which features unique outdoor travel stories, and Detour, which spotlights lesser-known destinations in Italy. Lastly, the Intelligent Traveler section will provide travel tips, from packing efficiently to getting an upgrade on a flight," he adds.

At the same time, the Italian digital platform has been launched, offering daily in-depth travel content.

The all-female editorial team behind the project includes Luciana Squadrilli, Livia Fiabetti, Martina di Lena, Veronica Mazza, Micol Passariello, Beatrice Tomasini, and Maria Pasquale.

The emotional side of Travel

The launch event at the Ristorante Niko Romito at Bulgari Roma also featured Jacqueline Gifford, Editor-in-Chief of Travel + Leisure.

"At Travel + Leisure, we strive to offer the best and most engaging storytelling possible—through words, images, and videos. But it is the emotional side of travel that truly makes everything worthwhile. I am thrilled that our historic brand has arrived in Italy, bringing a wealth of content on hotels, restaurants, cultural attractions, trends, and much more. It will be a valuable resource for Italians to rediscover the beauty of their own country and for international travellers to dream about Italy even more from across the ocean."
