During the blind tastings of hundreds of Franciacorta wines for the Gambero Rosso Vini d'Italia 2024 guide, we were impressed by the very high level average, very difficult to find a wine with the slightest flaw. At the same time, in several cases, the technical perfection had seemed almost excessive, as if it took the slightest imperfection to give it more of an angle, an 'Erasmus effect' in the middle. And we found that the increasingly restrained dosages are also good for the Extra Brut and Brut versions, which are increasingly centred in the alcoholic vein, for juicy and pleasant drinks.
In conclusion, we can say that the Franciacorta wines presented in full form at our Tre Bicchieri event, displaying awareness and maturity, lining up a long series of cuvées increasingly defined by their territorial imprint: little dosage and lots of character. We welcome two wineries among the Tre Bicchieri. The first is 1701, which proposed a Franciacorta Dosaggio Riserva 2016 of impressive fragrance and progression, the second is I Barisei, with the refined and profound Riserva Francesco Battista 2013. Back on the podium, finally, and in dazzling fashion, was Gatti, with a Nature '16 of extraordinary elegance.
