Few regions can offer such diverse stylistic interpretations and territories as Lombardy, a fact reconfirmed during the tastings for the Gambero Rosso Vini d'Italia 2025 guide. Here are the awarded wines

Lombardy is a comprehensive wine region. This year's tastings for the Gambero Rosso Vini d'Italia 2025 guide confirm its national leadership in the Metodo Classico in terms of Tre Bicchieri, with a strong representation from Franciacorta and Oltrepò Pavese. The Brescia district has presented an ambitious zoning effort and demonstrates a newfound production stability, with increasingly fine-tuned dosages and the emergence of new single-vineyard wines that reflect a stronger connection to the terroir. The average quality of the cuvées is very high, as shown by our evaluations of the producers along the shores of Lake Iseo. In particular, we were impressed by the stylistic evolution of many Satèn wines, which had previously drawn criticism, even from us. As for Oltrepò, the companies that have fully embraced the cause of Pinot Nero are shining.

Tre Bicchieri 2025 from Lombardy: whites, reds, and rosés

Among the whites, we find outstanding versions of Lugana, San Martino della Battaglia (from Friulano grapes), with forays into the Capriano del Colle denomination, where even the reds seem more modern and vibrant.

For an exploration of rosés, Valtènesi offers a strong benchmark: it is one of the few districts that, by nature, has chosen to enhance the best grapes of the area in a rosé expression, with a range that grows broader and more diverse every year. Dry and fragrant, they develop their full aromatic profile with a couple of years of bottle ageing.

Speaking of finesse, we turn to the slopes of Valtellina, which sees full success in its subzones: Sassella, Inferno, Grumello, without forgetting the richness of the Sforzato type. A mention also goes to the marble quarries of Botticino, a fairytale-like denomination in Brescia, with some producers who are true guardians of the district.

Sweet wines? The rare red Moscato from Scanzo in Bergamo or the Moscato di Volpara offer valid alternatives.

There were also positive impressions from the Garda and Valcalepio areas, finishing with the Lambrusco of Mantua. Few regions can offer such diverse stylistic interpretations and territories.

Tre Bicchieri 2025 from Lombardy: new entries

Lastly, we welcome the three wineries that have won Tre Bicchieri for the first time: San Cristoforo in Franciacorta, Marangona in Lugana, and I Vitari in Valtellina.
