Here are the wines from Abruzzo that have earned the Tre Bicchieri 2025, the highest accolade awarded by Gambero Rosso's Vini d'Italia guide

This year, Abruzzo boasts 16 Tre Bicchieri wines, an impressive number considering the challenging 2023 vintage, especially due to downy mildew. You'll also find some significant new entries.

Tre Bicchieri 2025 from Abruzzo: Pecorino

Only two Pecorino wines were awarded this year, both from the 2023 vintage. One is Giocheremo con i Fiori from Torre dei Beati. Adriana Galasso and Fausto Albanesi presented an incredible lineup, as solid as few others in the region. We also recommend trying their Cerasuolo Rosa-ae. The other winner is the Pecorino ’23 from Feudo Antico, hailing from the small Tullum DOCG in the Teatina area.

We also awarded three excellent Cerasuolo wines: Giusi from Terraviva, which earns its third Tre Bicchieri; Fossimatto by brothers Emanuele and Nicola Alteri from Fontefico, remarkable for its authenticity and richness; and a new entry to the Tre Bicchieri club: Cingilia from Cugnoli, which impressed us with a highly distinctive and delicious Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo.

Tre Bicchieri 2025 from Abruzzo: Montepulciano

Despite some previously noted challenges, Montepulciano dominates our list, with seven awarded wines, including Villamagna from Federico De Cerchio of Torre Zambra, which earns its first Tre Bicchieri. The classic Abruzzese red proves to be a good indicator of different winemaking styles and regions: from bold expressions like Fosso Cancelli by Chiara Ciavolich or Emidio Pepe, to modern styles from Nicodemi, Castorani, and Vignamadre, and refined, elegant examples like Inalto from Adolfo De Cecco.

Tre Bicchieri 2025 from Abruzzo: Trebbiano

We conclude with Trebbiano, which, as we've noted in the past, continues to surprise when it gains a few years of ageing. Amorotti, Masciarelli, and La Valentina were the producers who best interpreted this grape in our tastings this year, along with the Spinelli family, who join the Tre Bicchieri club for the first time with their extraordinary Trebbiano d’Abruzzo, following a complete reworking of their production.
