Tre Bicchieri 2025: the best wines from Liguria awarded by Gambero Rosso

Sep 22 2024, 18:14
Liguria reaffirms its status as a land of great white wines, with Vermentino taking centre stage, though there are also some very interesting Rossese-based labels. Here are the wines that received the prestigious Tre Bicchieri this year

When we take a closer look at the Ligurian wines awarded Tre Bicchieri in this year's Gambero Rosso Vini d'Italia guide, we see once again that Liguria is home to excellent white wines. However, to prove that this region can also produce noteworthy reds, we have Terre Bianche with its Dolceacqua '23. Filippo Rondelli and Franco Locani are the creators of this wine, offering a red that is expressive, multifaceted, and long-lasting. It's worth mentioning that, although this is the only red awarded, there are many outstanding Rossese wines featured in the guide. Noteworthy producers include Ka' Mancinè, Maccario-Dringenberg, and Maixei.

Tre Bicchieri 2025 from Liguria: Vermentino

As mentioned, Vermentino steals the spotlight this year, with four wines awarded: three from Colli di Luni and one from Colline di Levanto. Roberto Petacchi, now working alongside his son Tommaso, leads Giacomelli, and their Vermentino Boboli '23 was praised for its balance and satisfying qualities. Lunae Bosoni's Etichetta Nera is another celebrated classic, earning the winery its 16th Tre Bicchieri (all for the same wine). Completing the trio from Colli di Luni is Solaris from La Baia del Sole, crafted by Luca and Andrea Federici, a structured and deep white wine.

Shifting a bit north to Colline di Levanto, Ca' du Ferrà, run by Davide Zoppi and Giuseppe Luciano Aieta, impressed with Luccicante, a Vermentino with great aromatic impact. Beyond the winners, we encourage you to explore the other Vermentino wines reviewed in the guide, which we found to be complex, fascinating, and appropriately aromatic, with saline and iodine notes.

Tre Bicchieri 2025 from Liguria: a return to the top

We close our overview with a welcome return to the top, a great Pigato that serves as a benchmark for the variety: U Baccan '22 from Francesca Bruna and her husband Roberto, whose vineyards stretch across the hills between Ranzo and Ortovero.
