For those who never miss a game, be it athletics or great music enthusiasts, and even for those passing through the Ponte Milvio-Flaminio area: around the Olympic Football Stadium, quality restaurants, pizzerias, street food, and trattorias abound. Here are the best addresses selected by Gambero Rosso.

The Olympic Stadium is Rome's second Colosseum. The city's largest sports centre, among the largest in Europe, nestled in the Foro Italico park, is more than just a massive sports complex; it's a true place of worship for Romans. The official "home" of A.S. Roma and S.S. Lazio football clubs, as well as the venue for UEFA Cup matches, the Golden Gala, and the Six Nations, the most important international rugby tournament, was built in the Thirties and has undergone several renovations over time, the latest being for Italia '90 and in 2007. Besides sporting events, it is also the stage for memorable concerts, where world-famous artists perform. Here are some useful tips for something more than just a quick bite at the best places in the area, between Ponte Milvio and Flaminio.

Calipè

Bistrot. An original "fish wine bar" where you can find the best flavours of the sea in a contemporary style, paired with more than a hundred labels, as well as a rich cocktail selection. Calipè is the creation of Roman chef Lorenzo Tarallo, a welcoming venue that stands out for the freshness of its ingredients, as well as the variety of its offerings. The menu's highlight is the sea tapas, perfect for an aperitif - here, they open at 6:30 PM in the evening - or as a tasty appetisers (the homemade cacio, pepper, and cod maritozzo are notable); oysters, fried and raw dishes alternate with proposals that start from traditional ingredients reworked with non-canonical combinations: from octopus in BBQ sauce to amberjack tataki with a prosciutto breadcrumb. Delicious homemade desserts.

Hostaria Sireno

Restaurant. Self-proclaimed "Roman by birth," it has existed since 1972. In 2023, restyling and new management have made it a pleasant place in a convenient location, not only a few steps from the Olympic Stadium but also from the MAXXI and the Auditorium. The menu is Roman with a modern touch, without going overboard: cold cuts and cheeses, raw whole grain rice fritters alla gricia, water and flour spaghetti all'amatriciana, meatballs in sauce, and saltimbocca.

Figo Street Food

Street Food. The two brothers Massimo and Alessio have permanently parked their Volkswagen T2 converted into a food truck inside the Padel Club Bailey in Tor di Quinto to let people taste their Sicilian specialties amid greenery: sandwiches, snacks, salads, daily pasta dishes, the inevitable freshly fried arancini, and cannoli. Also, wines, proseccos, and cocktails for aperitifs.

I Fritti de Sora Milvia

Street Food. The saying "fried is good for everything," as a famous Roman saying goes, is not entirely true. Or rather, it depends on how it's fried. And here, as many loyal customers know, it's always done with care and precision, resulting in golden and crispy breading, never too greasy products. And so, one thing leads to another, with the opportunity to enjoy supplì (even those with amatriciana or cacio e pepe), meatballs, Ascolana-style olives, mozzarella in carrozza, panzerotti, and battered vegetables. The carciofi alla giudia, when available, is worth tasting every time. There are a few tables to eat on-site, otherwise, it's for takeaway in boxes.

Lo’steria

Trattoria. Just on the edge of Ponte Milvio's nightlife, a simple place to enjoy typical dishes of Roman cuisine made with selected raw materials. Between classics and seasonal recipes, the menu ranges from the "saccoccio" of fried food (try the boiled meat meatballs) to Lariano bread with butter and anchovies. Then cacio e pepe, bombolotti all'amatriciana, and seasonal dishes like spaghetti with asparagus, guanciale, and pecorino. Among the second courses, tripe, saltimbocca, and oxtail stew, perhaps accompanied by chicory and agretti. Good desserts. An inline cellar. Agile and friendly service.

Enoteca Mostò

Wine Bar. One of the best references for wine lovers in the Capital, located not far from the Auditorium. Here, the owner Ciro Borriello combines top-quality wine proposals, including small Italian and French productions and high-quality sparkling wines, with culinary offerings. The latter leverages top-quality ingredients in simple and tasty recipes, including the crostone with ciauscolo and friarielli, meatballs in sauce, or the Club Sandwich with salmon. Attentive and prompt service.

Panificio Nazzareno

Gourmet Break. A cornerstone of the neighbourhood, which was Gianfornaio in the last century, before taking on the name of Nazzareno, like the grandfather of the current owner who had worked there for a long time. For baking, the house tradition is followed, especially since an old steam oven from 1890 still operates, using hazelnut shells to bake about twenty types of sourdough bread, along with pizza alla pala, sweet and savoury pastry, breakfast leaveners (it's also a coffee shop), and those for festivities. From the kitchen come lunch and dinner dishes, while the bar counter offers cocktails for aperitifs.

Trapizzino

Street Food. The legendary triangle of pizza bianca invented by Stefano Callegari, filled with traditional Roman and national sauces, has become a gastronomic monument celebrated well beyond the borders of the Capital (reaching even the Big Apple!). Well-deserved success for the delicacies offered, whether they are the classic picchiapò, chicken with peppers, oxtail stew, or other interesting variations according to imagination and season, such as eggplant parmigiana, Roman-style artichokes, vitello tonnato, octopus in sauce, and the list goes on. Even the supplì is worth a taste. 11:00 AM/01:00 AM.
