As soon as you walk through the shop door you're struck by the bounty of excellence on display, foods from all over and superb wines (not to mention the meat counter). That alone is enough to understand the excellence behind all the food served in the room at the back. It's the passion of the Damini brothers that makes the difference: quiet Giorgio who oversees an increasingly convincing menu, and the warm Gian Pietro who 'pampers' their guests, both old and new, offering well-known wines as well as local bottles, all with class and competence. If in the minds of their devotees they're the best restaurant-butcher shop in Italy, in substance Damini continues to move slowly towards a broader, more complete vision. It's all thanks to Giorgio, a first-class chef who authors precise dishes, like goat and bay leaf tortellini or pork, aubergines and almonds. Hence the idea of three surprise menus (5, 8 and 11 dishes) as an alternative to the classic tasting menu and ideal for unrepentant carnivores. In any case, you'll love it.
