Rare Wines: two whites that age better than reds

In the editorial office, we are strongly convinced that Italian whites often age better than reds. It is a message that we carry around the world during our events, strengthened by the tastings that we repeat on a daily basis. In our journey with Rare Wines we have chosen two world-class white terroirs: Campania and Friuli-Venezia Giulia. In the first case we are in one of the most suitable sub-areas of Irpinia, in the municipality of Montefusco, learning about a parcel that brings something special into the glass. Greco di Tufo Arielle 2015 from the Feudo Studi line of Feudi di San Gregorio is an enchanting, refined, harmonious, complete white: a cru produced in just 1,500 bottles. It is the result of a commendable study, Feudo Studi, commissioned by Antonio Capaldo, who invested to map out and study in depth all the sub-areas of Irpinia: the plots of the group are 800, as many as 180 of Greco grapes.

We are convinced that this is a research that will be well taken up and put to good use by the Consorzio Tutela Vini d'Irpinia and by many other producers in the area, because the scope of the work is truly precious. The second rare wine instead takes us to Friuli-Venezia Giulia, in the province of Udine, between two old vineyards of Istrian Malvasia and Sauvignon. Morus Alba 2020 by Vignai da Duline is a wine that offers many levels of interpretation, maceration is just a starting point to give definition to a complex, graceful liquid with great freshness and a long finish.
