The winery is named after the center of Castelfranci, a key town in Alta Irpinia renowned for its exquisite reds, made from aglianico grapes. Luciano Gregorio and Gerardo Colucci lead the way, crafting a range that, in addition to the aforementioned reds, also includes exceptional whites (primarily from greco and fiano). Indeed, theirs is a consistently robust portfolio, constituted of wines whose common thread is freshness and tension. The Paladino Riserva '21 intrigues. It's a Fiano di Avellino redolent of white flowers and vanilla, while the palate proves elegant and taut, highly refined and crystal clear in its citrusy finish, backed by a distinct mineral undertone. Equally delicious is the Taurasi Alta Valle '18, varietal in its dark hints of pencil lead and burnt wood, faintly touched by sweet spices of oak and endowed with abundant black fruit. On the palate, it's mouthfilling, with generous tannins that aren't drying but rather flavorful, making for a true Taurasi with a pleasant acidic foundation.
