The story is a familiar post-war Italian tale, one that saw the migration of a farming family (in this case from Le Marche) who moved to Tuscany to till the soil. Giovanni, whose parents founded the estate, and is today supported by his daughters Martina and Lisa, was the first to believe in wine-growing in a region predominantly known for its orchards and vegetables. Today the estate covers over 30 hectares, with olive cultivation complementing the vineyards. The main varieties grown are Bordeaux-style red grapes, along with vermentino for the whites and sangiovese for the reds. The Lienà '20, a Cabernet Franc, debuts on the nose with iodine marine scents, then green bell pepper, hints of eucalyptus, and blackberry. A nice change of pace in the mouth, where it's racy, vigorous, with a well-integrated acid vein and pleasant persistence of flavor. The Felciaino '21 maintains its brackish element on the nose, with hints of Mediterranean scrub on a base of currants, while on the palate it proves to be rich, dynamic, and spirited.
