Podere Sapaio was established in 1999 in Castagneto Carducci by Massimo Piccin, an engineer from Veneto who left his job at the age of 30 to convert a tenant farm with a few rows of vines into a modern winery. His story serves as an example of how passion can lead to the creation of a prestigious project. Demonstrating his desire to highlight the potential of the territory, he chose the name of an ancient Tuscan grape variety, "sapaia", for the winery, and launched a series of artistic and cultural initiatives. The Volpolo '21 is a wine of superb harmony and balance. The nose conjures red and black fruits, from blackberry to currant, then graphite, and hints of Mediterranean scrub. The palate is vibrant, abundant in fruit, with finely textured tannins, showing tenacity and a firm grip on the finish. The Sapaio '20, a blend of mostly cabernet sauvignon along with cab franc and petit verdot, stands out for its broad and fruity aromatic suite, a robust body, well-matured tannins, and a juicy finish.
