For years, a series of hot vintages has spurred Valpolicella's wineries to reevaluate their high hillside vineyards, overlooked a half-century ago. The Accordini family winery astutely moved its viticultural core to the elevated regions of Mazzurega, Fumane, and Sant'Ambrogio, where they also built their new environmentally-friendly winery. Their wines exude energy and exhibit significant intensity of fruit. This year they submitted an impressive lineupwines that seem to seek more tension and suppleness than in the past. The Amarone Acinatico '19 opens on deep aromas where fruit is just one of the stars; alongside, nuances of spices and underbrush emerge with a subtle and deep mineral inflection. The palate consistently unveils sapidity and a commendable acidic energy. The Fornetto '16 stands out for its concentrated fruit on the palate, offering a sense of fullness and maturity.
