In the early 1960s, Nino Folonari, a distinguished figure in Italian enology at the time, purchased the Chianti estates in Greve in Chianti: the Tenuta del Cabreo in 1967 and the Tenuta di Nozzole in 1971. In 2000, Ambrogio and Giovanni Folonari, Nino's son and grandson respectively, founded the winery that bears their surname. They continued to embody the family's entrepreneurial spirit, not only in Chianti but also in Bolgheri (Campo al Mare), Montalcino (La Fuga), and Maremma (Vigne a Porrona). The Chianti Classico La Forra Riserva is one of the producer's historic wines, produced since the 1980s. And the 2019 version has well-focused aromas of red fruit with touches of undergrowth and tobacco. In the mouth, the palate is juicy and full, with a persistent and sapid finish. The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione '18 moves on a similar track, it's only a little tighter in its development. The Cabreo Il Borgo '20, made of sangiovese, cabernet sauvignon, and merlot, also proves well crafted.
