VINEYARD | Located among some of the oldest vineyards in the western part of Chianti, in the Cerreto Guidi area, the estate sits halfway between Florence and Pisa. The vineyard was in fact planted in 1928. The soils are of marine origin, calcareous with a high presence of fossils and shells, the exposure is south-west, we are at 130 metres above sea level. The blend in this case comes from the vineyard, in fact we find a dominance of Sangiovese, alongside Canaiolo and Colorino, plus a few rows of Trebbiano and Malvasia. An authentic return to the origins of Chianti. The yields are ruthless, we're talking 0.5 kg per plant. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in concrete containers, and then matures in untoasted 10hl barrels for about 24 months.
PERSON | In Cerreto Guidi, halfway between Florence and Pisa, in the company that has been in the family for generations, oenologist Alberto Antonini, assisted by his wife Alessandra, cultivates his own vineyards following the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture and demonstrating that one can work as he did on different continents without giving up one's idea of wine. Alongside Sangiovese, the great protagonist, we also find a share of Vermentino for the production of the only company white. Interventions in the cellar are reduced to a minimum to leave the wine as natural as possible. In addition to Vigna del 1928, we also point out the Vigna delle Conchiglie, another Chianti Riserva grown on soil particularly rich in limestone and fossils.
WINE |Fascinating with dark references that bring us back to black tea, soil, ripe dark fruit and balsamic essences. The mouth is dry, austere, more on the spices than on the pulp, for a rigorous and continuous trend, punctuated by a very focused tannic texture. The finish fades into sensations of dark cherry and blood orange, with a background of black pepper and roasted coffee. A refined red, with remarkable gustatory balance and expressive originality.
