VINEYARD | Located in Poggiobella di Farneta, halfway between Montepulciano and Cortona, in a hilly area called the "closed of Cortona." Without beating about the bush, it's the Italian territory most suited for syrah. The vines are grown strictly following the principles of biodynamics, copper and sulphur are used only when extremely necessary. The grapes for the Apice come from the Canonici vineyard, they ripen for 24 months in ceramic and then rest for two years in the bottle. Produced only in vintages deemed worthy: a rare wine, squared.
PERSON | The winery was born from the desire to produce a syrah in the wake of the family's peasant tradition. The clones and selections of the vine planted were chosen in the Rhone valley. The management of the vineyard follows completely natural principles which also regulate the work in the cellar, which is certainly not very interventionist. The winery has therefore become a laboratory of agricultural sustainability, also extended to the cultivation of grains, vegetables and fruit as well as animal breeding. In 20 years Stefano Amerighi has been a true pioneer of the growth and development of syrah in the Cortona area. Sensitive to critical confrontation and discussion, he has proposed a new, coherent and fascinating territorial vision, fueling articulated and stimulating stylistic comparisons.
WINE | We're ready to taste and already we're walking in a forest amid dark and inviting sensations: topsoil, wet leaves, pine bark. Then cacao, ripe black fruits, nuances of juniper and black pepper. The mouth is a true marvel. The opening starts slowly, then accelerates vibrantly and sharply, with a progression of the sip that lightens with balsamic closing notes and that seems to never end. A jolt of flavour and freshness that beckons the table with a rare intensity. The drinkability is already very high now, but it has the cards to age gracefully in the bottle for at least another 15 years.
