VINEYARD | Giovacchino is the name of the old owner of the ansonica vineyard that Giovanni and Simone use for this label. He is one of the many Giglio Doc farmers who gave credit and trust to the Rossi brothers' project: so he willingly gave them a small plot in the south-western end of the island, with very old vines ranging from 60 to 80 years, a parcel which required a long process of recovery of the plants and which with the 2021 vintage is presented for the first time in the bottle. The alberello vines take root on classic Giglio soil, made up mostly of loose granite.
PERSON | "At one point the mouse became heavier than the hoe." Not many other words are needed to understand the life choice that Giovanni Rossi made in the early 2000s, when, after abandoning financial statements, tax operations and double entries, he decided to return to Isola del Giglio, the island where he was born, and recover the relationship with this land. Together with his brother Simone, today they are cultivating five hectares of vineyards, in different areas of the island, with another two hectares that will become productive in approximately two years. True winemakers, theirs is not just agriculture, but a true mission of recovery and maintenance of the island's wine tradition.
WINE | One would say "one-take-wonder" were it not that the wine is not only good... it is much more so. Giovacchino '21 is a perfect summary of Isola del Giglio, its land, the sun, the sea and the people. Like the latter, it releases character and identity: synaesthetically, yellow dominates the nose, with broom and ripe citrus fruits. Then it is the sea that takes over with iodized lashings, the sensation of rock, the scent of seashells. Finally, the sip is juicy, and admirably blends all these components into a decidedly saline tone.
