VINEYARD | Orpicchio is a project that started in 2009 after selecting and studying some Trebbiano biotypes already present in the winery. Thanks to DNA analysis, the vine was identified and reproduced in a single dedicated vineyard. Located in Vinci, in the province of Florence, after manual harvesting the grapes undergo cryo-maceration and then ferment in steel tanks for a month; the wine then matures in French oak tonneaux for 12 months and is then refined in the bottle for a further 6 months at least.
PERSON | The winery is managed with passion and enterprise by Veronica Billeri and Francesco Passerin d'Entreves, a couple at work and in life, who follow the production activity as well as the accommodation of the family properties. In this area, the winemaking tradition dates back to the end of the 18th century, as witnessed by the writings of the poet Renato Fucini, who was often a guest at the Medici villa, at the centre of the hunting estate of the lords of Florence. Sangiovese, colorino, cabernet sauvignon, vermentino, oripicchio (a biotype of trebbiano) are the grapes that produce wines with names that refer to the titles of Fucini's novellas.
WINE | Four years after the harvest in the glass we find impressive freshness, with a colour that is still very light and brilliant. The aromas play with aniseed and almond, but also sensations of sea shrubs, yellow fruit and white pepper. The palate teases with its tanginess, firm body and vibrant citrus freshness. It starts slow and delicate, and closes in a crescendo of spices, camphor and ginger. It has at least 10 glorious years of evolution ahead of it.
