VINEYARD | Border land between Italy and Slovenia, Oslavia was the scene of hard battles during World War I. Witness of these battles is the Ossuary of Oslavia, in the shadow of which sit the vineyards of Dario Princic which rest on land formed by a stratification of sedimentary rocks of sandstone and marl of Eocene origin - the so-called "ponca" - and clay, with southeast exposure. Among the native and international grape varieties present in the vineyard we find ribolla gialla, the flagship grape of this area. After the harvest, the fermentation is carried out in acacia and oak barrels, using indigenous yeasts and the maceration on the skins lasts about 35 days. Immediately afterwards the wine rests in large barrels for 12 months before being bottled.
PERSON | Dario Princic can be counted among that group of producers who, starting from the Eighties, embraced a recovery of the past and tradition and a total abandonment of the use of chemistry in the vineyard. Since 1988 he has distinguished himself thanks to strongly territorial and fascinating wines, whose forte is preservation of an artisan soul on the palate with total absence of filtrations or clarification before bottling.
WINE | The bright yellow with orange reflections in the glass refer to the extractive role of maceration on the skins. The range of aromas is wide and multifaceted: spices, dried herbs, dehydrated apricot, eucalyptus, bitter orange, helichrysum, notes of nuts and iodised nuances. The longer it is held in the glass, the more the perceived sensations are amplified. The intensity of the nose is balanced by a lighter and more agile mouth, in which scents become more citrusy and fresh. A wine that manages to become incisive thanks to a sense of proportion and tradition.
