VINEYARD | In the south of Sardinia, about 15 kilometers from Cagliari, the Pala family processes the grapes of different plots of land in the municipalities of Serdiana and Ussana. Among these, the lovely sixty-year-old cordon-trained vineyard Is Crabilis, located at 180 meters above sea level. A clayey, sandy and skeletal soil lend the grapes many mineral salts. It is only thanks to some selected rows of vines that Stellato Nature is produced every year in very few bottles.
PEOPLE | Mario Pala is at the helm of the company that bears the family name. He is flanked by his children Elisabetta and Massimiliano, who have been active in production and sales for years. Everything is carried out with the historical and precious collaboration of general and export manager Fabio Angius. Pala has reached a production of about 500 thousand bottles in the name of quality and the characteristics of the Serdiana territory. Vermentino and Cannonau are the main traditional grape varieties, but also Nasco, Nuragus, Monica, Carignano and Bovale are grown here. The latter is produced also thanks to some old, ungrafted vineyards on sandy soils in the Terralba area.
WINE | Lovers of Vermentino di Sardegna Stellato will recognize some similarities with its brother Nature, such as the aromas of white fruit, aromatic herbs, and great sapidity. There is no lack of differences too: starting with the color, a hazy golden yellow compared to the many transparent and luminous whites. Then the olfactory perception that is enriched with notes of helichrysum, wild flowers, herbs and marine plants. Silky, full and warm mouthfeel with a tangy streak (which adds up to a delicate acidic freshness) that plays a major role. A tasty and deep wine to be paired with meat dishes.
